Table Tennis Junior Umpire Award @ APS
Table Tennis Junior Umpire Award @ APS
Gabor Papp | 19/10/2010
Alexandra Park School is very proud of it's thirty two new Junior Umpires. Following the successful completion of their award last week, in their GCSE PE & BTEC First Sport lessons.
The course consists of a short multiple choice theory paper and then an opportunity to put into practice the knowledge learnt in a practical umpiring session.
The course was completed in a two hour lesson, with all sudents given the chance to demonstrate their table tennis skills, whilst umpires scored matches and checked they kept to the rules.
GCSE PE students will be using this as one of their Practical assessment opportunities. The BTEC group, are using it as part of their planning stage, as they will be hosting a table tennis tournament later in the year to achieve Unit 5 - Planning, Leading and Evaluating a Sports Activity.
All umpires have been encouraged to volunteer their new skills at the Haringey School Sport Table Tennis Festivals planned for after half term.
Three have already given up their time to officiate at the Boys U'13 Tournament last week, and already appreciate how much more, they now understand about the role of the umpire.
Find attached a copy of the theory paper & ETTA rules.
See how many rules you can get right, before checking the answers.
Any PE Teacher with a knowledge of the game of table tennis can deliver the course and there is no minimum limit, on the age of students to qualify as umpires.
